Una vez que terminó el encuentro entre Holanda y Alemania (2-2), Virgil van Dijk, capitán de la orange, se acercó al colegiado para desearle mucha fuerza y para decirle que cumplió con una gran labor. ¿Por qué hizo esto? Porque se enteró que el silbante recientemente sufrió el fallecimiento de su madre.

«Ese hombre se rompió, se quedó con lágrimas en los ojos porque acababa de perder a su madre. Le deseé fuerza y le dije que había hecho un buen trabajo. Es algo pequeño, pero tal vez lo ayude», explicó el jugador del Liverpool, según recoge Voetbal International.
